Blog | Definition of Failure - iHustle, iGrind

Things that have been going on in the past 2 months pretty much made me write this. Basically, after a big break from the music industry, I obviously came back (this site proves it). So, I figured, besides work with majors, to pick up one unsigned artist to develop.
Now, if I knew what a pain that can turn into… I have definitely learned to appreciate all artists out there who work 16hrs per day just so they could invest in their music, who are serious about their career and most importantly, who got a good soul and pure talent! Let’s go thru couple basic profiles of FAKE artists.

Artist Type: “I hustle, grind, and handle my bidness” - STFU!
I understand artists, and I understand that not all of them got a budget, BUT, instead of releasing a “mixtape” with crappy songs, just record one SINGLE. Yes, high-quality hit song. It will get you a lot further than “I gotS money bay-bay, awe, I gotS it all, this is for all my n**** doin time” – WAKE UP. Stop it! Hustle&Grind is a simple definition of failure. And don’t be going around saying “I handle business”. Business – you invest, you develop, you market, you hire, you sell, you earn, you pay taxes. What you might want to say is “I’m recording.” Makes sense, doesn’t it?

Artist Type: “Autotune makes me sound like I got talent” - Um, no it doesn’t.
So, I even went a step further. I was on every single website where I can literally dig out a talented R&B singer. Waste of time. People who can’t sing? Um, okay… Good for you. And no, autotune can’t hide you got zero talent. Quit it. Try having another hobby.

Artist Type: I got it going! - Sure you do, what happened when you woke up?
Now, the thing I absolutely hate is when artists are trying to sell me the story or like I like to say “Make up image”. Do you seriously think I will fall for it? BEFORE talking to you I will literally have your SSN in my hands. Yes, I am serious. A real professional doesn’t leave things to happen. A true professional makes thing happen. And information is crucial. (Write this down somewhere, “INFORMATION IS CRUCIAL”). You might want to go to the section “Music 101″ where you have a blog about what you need to have to even talk to a manager, not to mention an A&R.

Artist Type: I’m the next best thing! - If you were, you would be major.
If you do your business right, A&Rs would already notice you. Maybe they did and run away without turning back. I rest my case.

Artist Type: A friend of my friends friends wifes 2nd husbands 1s child from 5th baby mama was in front of Ludacris. - Yes, I hear Luda can still rock the stage at his concerts.

If you don’t have an official song with an artist… I think I don’t even have to explain this. No one has your back, no one will hook you up. Oh wait, “Hook us up” is the next thing in line.

Artist Type: Hook me up! - Hooking up should be banned from business vocabulary.
Why would I give you someone’s phone number if I need the connect? Sure, I will just give it to a complete stranger who will call the person saying how “tight we are”. Snap out of it! Work and get your own damn connections or pay me to help you promote.

Once again, huge respect for y’all out there who are doing their best to handle their stuff the best way they can. Remember, what goes around comes around. Hard work ALWAYS pays off, if done properly. DON’T INVEST IN QUANTITY BUT IN QUALITY!!!
